Cherupayar Thengapaal Piralan / Green Gram Coconut Milk Roast
CHERUPAYAR THENGAPAAL PIRALAN /
GREEN GRAM COCONUT MILK ROAST
This is a tasty and healthy recipe with green gram. It is a spiced green gram curry that goes well with rice.
Ingredients:
1. Green gram / cherupayar- 1 cup
2. Coconut oil- 1 tbsp
3. Mustard- 1 tsp
4. Curry leaves- 1 spring
5. Red chilli- 3
6. Cumin seeds- 1/2 tsp
7. Garlic- 4
8. Chopped onion- 1
9. Green chilli- 3
10. Turmeric powder- 1/4 tsp
11. Salt- as needed
12. Thick coconut milk- 3/4 cup
Soak green gram for 5 to 6 hours. Cook it in a pressure cooker adding enough water and salt. Drain and slightly mash it.
Crush cumin and garlic.
Heat oil. Splutter mustard. Add red chilli and curry leaves. Slightly roast it. Add crushed garlic and cumin. Saute well. Add onion, green chilli, salt and turmeric powder. Saute till wilted. Mix cooked green gram and coconut milk. Stir well. Cook till it becomes dry and thick.
Serve hot with rice.
