Vazhakka Parippu Erissery
VAZHAKKA PARIPPU ERISSERY
Vazhakka parippu erissery is a Kerala style delicious curry served with rice. It is a traditional dish that combines raw banana and lentil with spices and ground coconut.
Ingredients:
1. Raw banana (small)- 3
2. Lentil- 1/2 cup
3. Grated coconut- 1 1/4 cup
4. Garlic- 2
5. Cumin seeds- 1/2 tsp
6. Green chilli- 4
7. Turmeric powder- 1/2 tsp
8. Salt- as needed
9. Coconut oil- 1 tbsp
10. Mustard- 1 tsp
11. Sliced shallots- 4
12. Red chilli- 3
13. Curry leaves- 1 spring
Chop banana into small cubes and soak in water for 5 minutes. Drain and cook it in a pressure cooker along with lentil, salt and water for 2 to 3 whistles. Let the pressure go by itself.
Grind 1 cup of coconut, cumin, green chilli, garlic and turmeric powder into a fine paste adding little water.
Open the cooker and add ground coconut paste. Mix well and boil for 5 minutes. Switch off the flame.
Heat coconut oil. Splutter mustard. Add shallots and saute till it changes its color. Add 1/4 cup of coconut and red chilli. Roast till coconut turns golden brown. Mix curry leaves and roast it. Turn off the flame and add it to the prepared curry. Stir well.
Serve hot as a side dish for rice.
