Sago Kheer / Chowari Payasam


SAGO KHEER / CHOWARI PAYASAM




Chowari payasam is an easy and simple payasam or dessert recipe. It is delicious and can fit in for any special occasions.

Ingredients:

1. Sago / Chowari- 1/3 cup
2. Milk- 1 litre
3. Sugar- according to your taste
4. Cardamon powder- 1 tsp
5. Ghee- 1 tbsp
6. Cashew nuts and raisins- 2 tsp each

Cook sago in a pressure cooker for 1 whistle adding 1 litre of water. Let the pressure go by itself. Open cooker and drain chowari. Wash it twice under running water and keep it aside.

Mix milk and sugar. Boil for 5 minutes stirring continuously. Add sago and stir well. Boil till milk reduces to half and it becomes almost thick. It will take around 10 minutes. Mix cardamon powder and turn off the flame.

Heat ghee. Roast cashew nuts and raisins separately and add it to the prepared payasam along with the ghee. Stir well.

Serve hot.


Notes:

This payasam will thicken over time. So do not thicken much if you are serving it chilled.
