Fish / Meen Pattichath


MEEN PATTICHATH




Fish pattichath is  traditional christian dish. It is a spicy and delicious fish curry.

Ingredients:

1. Fish- 1/2 kg
2. Chilli powder- 2 tsp
3. Turmeric powder- 1/2 tsp
4. Salt- as needed
5. Coconut oil- 1 tbsp
6. Mustard- 1 tsp
7. Curry leaves- 1 spring
8. Green chilli- 3
9. Fenugreek seeds- 1/4 tsp
10. Shallots- 20
11. Garlic- 10
12. Ginger- 1 inch piece
13. Kashmiri chilli powder- 1 tbsp
14. Pepper powder- 1 tsp
15. Kodampuli / Malabar tamarind- 2

Marinate fish with 1 tsp of chilli powder, turmeric powder and salt for 15 minutes.

Crush shallots, ginger and garlic.

Heat coconut oil. Splutter fenugreek and mustard. Add crushed shallots-garlic-ginger, curry leaves and green chilli. Saute till it becomes light golden. Mix 1 tsp of chilli powder, kashmiri chilli powder and pepper powder. Saute till oil appears. Pour 1/2 cup of water and add kudampuli. Bring it to a boil. Add seasoning. Add fish and mix well. Cook till the fish is done. 

Serve hot.


Notes:

This fish curry taste best when prepared in a clay pot.

After cooking, remove kudampuli if you feel its too tangy. Curry will turn tangy over time if you leave it in the curry for more time.

This curry taste best when served the next day.
