Gulab Jamun
GULAB JAMUN
Gulab Jamun are a milk-solid based South Asian sweet. A classic Indian sweet or dessert that is perfect for any celebrations.
Ingredients:
1. Water- as needed
2. Sugar- 1/2 kg
3. Rose water- 1/2 tsp
4. Cardamon powder- 1/2 tsp
5. All purpose flour- 3 tbsp
6. Baking powder- 1/4 tsp
7. Milk powder- 1 cup
8. Baking soda- 1/4 tsp
9. Corn flour- 2 tbsp
10. Ghee- 1 tbsp
11. Oil- for frying
Mix 3 cups of water and sugar. Boil and make a sugar syrup with one-string consistency. Add rose water and cardamon powder. Mix well and keep it aside.
In a mixing bowl, add flour, corn flour, milk powder, baking soda and baking powder. Mix well. Add 2 tbsp of water and gently knead it into a soft dough. Add little more water only if its required to knead the dough properly. Add ghee and knead well. Make tiny balls from the dough.
Heat oil. Fry the balls in low flame till golden brown. Transfer them directly into the sugar syrup from the oil.
Once all the gulab jamun are put into the sugar syrup, place the vessel on stove top and slightly boil for 2 minutes.
Let it rest for 1 day to absorb the sugar syrup.
Serve with vanilla ice cream.
