Dried Shark / Unakka Sravu Thoran


DRIED SHARK / UNAKKA SRAVU THORAN




Dried Shark Thoran is a delicious side for Kerala meals. It is very easy to make and is a mouth watering dish.

Ingredients:

1. Boneless dried shark- 50 grams
2. Grated coconut- 1 cup
3. Shallots- 14
4. Chilli powder- 2 tsp
5. Turmeric powder- 1/4 tsp
6. Coconut oil- 1 tbsp
7. Mustard- 1 tsp
8. Red chilli- 2
9. Curry leaves- 1 spring

Grind coconut, chilli powder, turmeric powder and 4 shallots together. Keep it aside.

Soak fish for 6 to 8 hours. Drain the water. This helps to reduce the saltiness of the fish.

Chop each shallots into two.

In a pan, cook washed fish pieces, shallots and 1/2 cup of water. When the water reduces to half, add the ground coconut mix and  stir well. Cook till the fish is done and it looks a bit fried. The curry should become really dry. Switch off the flame.

Heat oil in a pan. Splutter mustard. Add red chilli and curry leaves. Slightly roast them and turn off the gas. Pour this over the prepared curry and mix well.

Serve hot with rice.
