Fish Egg Puttu with Molee Curry
FISH EGG PUTTU WITH MOLEE CURRY
A perfect delicious breakfast for all those who love puttu and fish molee. This is a modern twist on the traditional puttu and fish molee. This can be your favorite if you are someone who are looking for a change to treat your taste buds.
Ingredients:
1. Eggs- 2
2. Chopped onion- 1
3. Green chilli- 2
4. Oil- 2 tsp
5. Boneless fish pieces- 1/2 cup
6. Chilli powder- 1/2 tsp
7. Turmeric powder- 1/4 tsp
8. Malabar tamarind / kudampuli- 1
9. Shallots- 1/4 cup
10. Ginger- 1/2 tsp
11. Garlic- 1/2 tsp
12. Curry leaves- 1 spring
13. Thick coconut milk- 1/2 cup
14. Salt- as needed
15. Rice flour- 1 cup
16. Grated coconut- 1/2 cup
Whisk eggs, onion, 1 green chilli and salt. Heat oil in a pan. Make scrambled eggs and keep aside.
In a clay pot, mix fish, chilli powder, turmeric powder, kudampuli, shallots, ginger, 1 green chilli, garlic, curry leaves and salt. Pour 1 cup of water and boil till the fish the is cooked through. Switch off the flame and take out the cooked fish pieces and kudampuli from the curry. Let the curry cool down a bit. Once its cold, pour it into a blender and make a paste out of it.Transfer the ground paste back into the clay pot and pour coconut milk. Mix well. Place it back on stove and slightly boil it. Switch off the flame. This is the molee curry / gravy for the fish egg putt.
Slightly mince or crumble the cooked fish pieces and mix it with the scrambled eggs.
In a large mixing bowl, take rice flour. Add enough water and make a wet powder for making puttu.
In a puttu maker, put some coconut and top it with a thick layer of egg-fish mix followed by a layer of rice flour. Sprinkle some more coconut on top and cook in the puttu maker for 8 minutes.
Serve fish egg puttu hot with molee curry and enjoy.
Notes:
You can also mix the entire fish-egg mix with the rice flour and cook it.
