ANCHOVY / NATHOLI ULARTHIYATH




Keralites have a strong liking for seafood. Non vegetarians in Kerala consume fish on a daily basis. Most common way of preparing fish is to make curries or fry it. This recipe is another traditional way of cooking Anchovy in spicy Coconut meat. It is delicious and easy to prepare.

Ingredients:

1. Anchovy / Natholi- 1/2 kg
2. Grated Coconut- 1/2 cup
3. Shallots- 2
4. Green Chilli- 4
5. Fennel seeds- 1 tsp
6. Oil- 1 tbsp
7. Mustard- 1 tsp
8. Curry leaves- 1 spring
9. Turmeric powder- 1/2 tsp
10. Salt- as needed

Marinate Natholi with Turmeric powder and salt.

Grind Coconut, Shallots, Green Chilli and Fennel without adding water.

Heat oil in a pan. Splutter Mustard. Add Natholi, ground Coconut paste and Curry leaves. Mix well. Cook closed for 3 minutes. Later cook without the lid on. Stir occasionally. Adjust salt. Cook till it becomes dry. Switch off flame when its dry.

Serve hot with Rice.
