Armenian Boraki


ARMENIAN BORAKI




Boraki are Armenian small pastries filled with meat and fried in oil. They are one of the best known Armenian dishes and its quite simple to make. 

Ingredients:

1. All purpose flour- 1 cup
2. Curd- 1 spoon
3. Oil- as required
4. Salt- as needed
5. Baking powder- 1/2 tsp
6. Baking soda- 1/2 tsp
7. Water- as required
8. Beef cooked and minced- 1/2 cup
9. Spring Onion- 1/4 cup
10. Capsicum- 1/4 cup
11. Chopped Onion- 1/2 cup
12. Ginger Garlic paste- 1 tsp
13. Pepper powder- 1 tsp
14. Worcestershire sauce- 1 tbsp
15. Tomato sauce- 1 tbsp

Make a soft dough by adding together flour, curd, salt, baking powder, baking soda, 1 tbsp of oil and water. Knead well and keep it closed for 1 hour.

For the filling heat 1 tsp of oil in a pan. Saute minced beef, spring onion, capsicum, onion and ginger garlic paste adding some salt. Mix pepper powder, worcestershire sauce and tomato sauce. Switch off the flame. 

Make a thick paste with 1 tbsp all purpose flour and some water to seal the sides of Boraki.

Make balls out of the dough. Flatten each ball and spread the filling as a line on one side and roll into a cylinder sealing edges with the flour paste. Fold each cylinder into a U shape. Deep fry till golden in hot oil and drain on an absorbent paper.

Serve hot.
