Anchovy / Natholi Curry


ANCHOVY / NATHOLI CURRY




A mildly spiced delicious and simple fish curry. Natholi curry is a traditional recipe and can be served as a side for Rice.

Ingredients:

1. Natholi / Anchovy- 1/2 kg
2. Grated Coconut- 1 1/2 cup
3. Shallots- 6
4. Turmeric powder- 1/2 tsp
5. Chilli powder- 1 tbsp
6. Coriander powder- 3/4 tbsp
7. Tomato- 1
8. Kudampuli / Pot Tamarind- 2
9. Fenugreek powder- 1/4 tsp
10. Green Chilli- 4
11. Curry leaves- 1 spring
12. Salt- as needed
13. Water- 3/4 cup
14. Coconut oil- 1 tbsp

Grind Coconut, Shallots, Turmeric powder, Chilli powder and Coriander powder to a paste adding water.

In a pan, add the ground paste, Natholi, Tomato, Kudampuli, Fenugreek powder, Green Chilli, Curry leaves and salt. Combine well. Cook with the lid closed on medium flame stirring occasionally. It will take approximately 15 minutes. Once cooked well switch off the flame and drizzle Coconut oil. Adding Coconut oil at this stage enhances a nice aroma and flavor. Mix well.

Serve hot with Rice.
