Neriya Vellayappam / Thin Rice Pancake


NERIYA VELLAYAPPAM / THIN RICE PANCAKE




Neriya Vellayappam is a kind of Appam which is very common in the state of Tamil Nadu. What makes it different from normal Appam is that it is very thin. Neriya Vellayappam can be served with any curry of your choice.

Ingredients:

1. White Rice / Pachari- 1/2 cup
2. Ponni Rice- 1 cup
3. Egg- 1
4. Ghee- as required
5. Water- as required
6. Salt- as required

Soak White rice and Ponni rice for 5 to 6 hours. Grind it well adding Egg, Salt and enough water to make a thin or loose batter. 

Heat a non-stick pan. Grease it with Ghee. Pour a ladle full of batter and rotate the pan. This helps the batter to flow freely to all sides. Cook on both sides. Once cooked, fold and serve.

Serve warm with any curry.
