Malabar Mutton Kurma


MALABAR MUTTON KURMA




Malabar Mutton Kurma is a rich and creamy curry and is delicately flavored. During Eid and Ramzan fasting this delicious Malabar dish is very common in every house and its served as a side for Pathiri, Ghee rice etc.

Ingredients:

1. Mutton- 1/2 kg
2. Coconut oil- 1 tbsp
3. Onion- 2
4. Ginger Garlic paste- 1/2 tbsp
5. Green Chilli- 2
6. Coriander powder- 1 tbsp
7. Pepper powder- 1 tsp
8. Water- 1/4 cup
9. Grated Coconut- 1 cup
10. Cashew nuts- 7
11. Garam masala- 1/4 tsp
12. Chopped Tomato- 1
13. Salt- as required
14. Coriander leaves- 2 tbsp

Soak Cashew nuts for 15 minutes.

Heat oil in a pressure cooker. Add Onion, Green Chilli and Ginger Garlic paste. Saute till wilted. Add Coriander powder and Pepper power. Saute till the raw smell is gone. Mix Mutton and water. Add salt. Close the cooker and cook Mutton well.

Grind Coconut and Cashew nuts into a paste. I add the stock of the Mutton to grind it. You can use water also. But do not add too much water as this curry has a thick creamy gravy.

Once you open the Cooker, put it back on the stove and add the ground paste, Garam masala and Tomato. Boil well for 2 minutes. Add Coriander leaves and switch off the flame. Close and let it rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Serve warm with Pathiri, Chapati, Appam or Ghee Rice.
