Jeera Rice


JEERA RICE




Jeera Rice is a popular dish in North India consisting of Rice and Cumin seeds. Its knows as Zeera Rice in Pakistan. Most flavored among all rice dishes and is excellent accompaniment with all dishes. 

Ingredients:

1. Basmati rice- 2 cup
2. Butter- 2 tbsp
3. Oil- 1 tbsp
4. Cinnamon- 2 stick
5. Bay leaf- 2
6. Mace- 1 small piece
7. Clove- 4
8. Cumin / Caraway seeds- 1 1/2 tbsp
9. Boiling water- 4 cup
10. Salt- as required
11. Onion- 2
12. Green Chilli- 2

Wash Rice and let it drain completely

Heat Oil and Butter together in a cooker. Add Cinnamon, Bay leaf, Mace, Clove and Cumin. Saute in low flame till you get a nice aroma. Add Onion, Green chilli and salt. Saute till Onion becomes light golden in color. Mix Rice and saute for 1 minute. Add boiling water. Adjust salt. Close the cooker. and initially do not put whistle. When steam starts coming heavily through the whistle hole, put the whistle on and reduce flame to low. Cook for exact 5 minutes and turn off the gas. Let it rest for 30 to 40 minutes. 

Once you open the cooker fluff it up with a fork. 

Serve Jeera rice hot with any side dish and Raita of your choice.
